Job Description:
Advanced Lead Materials Application Engineer provides materials expertise and technical leadership for multiple material systems across a variety of components. The focus of this role is the development and application of metallic materials and processes across a variety of aviation components within the supply chain and services. In this role, you will work with new products and legacy teams to solve complex technical problems. You will also work with external parties on both industry and universities to develop and execute concepts matching short-term and some long-term business goals and strategies. The role requires horizontal partnership with design, sourcing, services and quality to ensure robust technical and organizational solutions for the internal and external customers.

Role Overview:

  • Conceptual, or theoretical activities relating to the development, improvement, and usage of materials, coatings, and processes undertaken to build, apply, or shape the materials.
  • Developing conceptual knowledge of professional discipline. May include support roles with specialized expertise or technical knowledge in broad area.
  • Applies general knowledge of business developed through education or experience. Understands how work of own team contributes to the area.
  • Resolves issues using established procedures. Consults supervisor or more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters.
  • Collaborates with others to solve issues. For customer facing roles, develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE Aerospace. Exchanges technical information asks questions and checks for understanding. 

The Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate will be a highly experienced materials science engineer with deep expertise in aerospace materials development, strong knowledge of metallic materials, and a proven ability to lead cross-functional projects.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical & Materials Science Engineering
  • Good level of understanding on metallic materials, their physical and mechanical properties and processing.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and orally in English.
  • Proven self-starter and independent worker who can work with cross-functional teams
  • Fast in action but with detailed technical review and good documentation
  • Project Management Skills related to material technologies
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, eager to learn continuously

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science and/or PhD in Materials Science Engineering is preferred
  • Awareness and/or experience in aerospace industry is preferred.
  • Awareness and knowledge of aerospace materials and material testing; titanium, nickel, iron etc. based super alloys and their processing and properties is plus.
  • Ability to coordinate several tasks/projects simultaneously, strategically prioritize work.
  • A self-starter with an eye on problem solving and driving solutions
  • Awareness and knowledge of manufacturing processes such as thermal spray, shot peen, chemical processes, welding, brazing, heat treatment etc. and their potential effects on material.
