The Systems Architect – Electrification role for Electrical Systems requires broad technical and organizational leadership that will help shape strategy, help with a technology vision, and drive systems technology with our military and commercial businesses. This role will be responsible for shaping and driving a systems electrification roadmap, obtaining stakeholder buy in from critical subsystems of generation, control, distribution, and protection. This includes making system trade offs between electrical, thermal, structural, and other disciplines.Job Description
You will:
- Champion a culture of safety, transparency, and humility.
- Bring deep technical expertise in one or more of the following areas: electrical power system design, system trades and analysis, electrical machine design, power systems controls implementation, or power systems materials R&D — with working knowledge across the broader set.
- Shape and drive electrical systems R&D strategy — from roadmap development through execution — in close partnership with internal and external customers across air, land, marine, and space applications.
- Lead and mentor team members, recruit diverse talent, and translate high-level strategy into technical reality.
- Originate and lead major programs with key government agencies (DARPA, NASA, AFRL, ARL, ONR, etc.) and across GE Aerospace business units.
- Build and sustain strong networks across GE Aerospace, academia, government labs, suppliers, and partners to accelerate innovation and maximize outcomes.
- Coordinate internal and external engagements to foster multi-disciplinary collaboration and forward-looking technical vision.
Qualifications:
- PhD in with 5 years of industry experience, a Masters with 10 years of experience in engineering with a focus on electrical systems in automotive, marine, or aerospace domains.
- Technical, hands on expertise in one or more of the following areas: electrical power system design, system trades and analysis, electrical machine design, power systems controls implementation, or power systems materials R&D — with working knowledge across the broader set.
- A demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with deep-domain Subject Matter Experts to execute complex programs
- Track record of actively mentoring and nurturing peers and developing emerging talent.
- Track record of originating, shaping, and securing R&D projects for internal and/or external customers
- Experience leading large research programs and delivering technology solutions on time and within budget
- U.S. citizenship is required
- Eligible and willing to undergo a background investigation to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
- Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
Desired Characteristics:
- Deep domain expertise in one or more electrification technology areas, including: electrical power systems, hybrid electric propulsion for commercial and/or military platforms, semiconductor and microelectronics technology for power electronics, and controls, protection, or prognostics & health monitoring for aerospace and/or automotive applications.
- Proven ability to advance innovative concepts from early-stage design through new product introduction or fielded capability.
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and/or recognized conference venues.
- Active U.S. security clearance
The base pay range for this position is 130,000 – 240,000 USD annually . The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary/ commission based on the plan. This posting is expected to close June 17th, 2026
