Job Purpose
Lead and coordinate MATARs sustainability initiatives, ensuring alignment with global goals and enhancing sustainability performance across the organization and its supply chain. Propose and execute strategies to make MATAR a more sustainable and socially responsible company.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic:
- Champion sustainability and ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) projects and initiatives within MATAR.
- Develop and implement a structured sustainability strategy aligned with global goals, ensuring responses are measurable, effective and communicable.
- Identify material sustainability topics using best practice techniques and methods.
- Develop and drive, using material topics as the basis, a sustainability response strategy which is in alignment with and contributes toward the achievement of, applicable UN Sustainable Development Goals and corresponding UNSDG targets.
Operational:
- Extend sustainability initiatives into the supply chain to reduce risks, improve resilience and address inequalities.
- Identify and manage risks and issues across projects and operations, recommending appropriate risk management strategies.
- Establish systems to measure and track sustainability performance using KPIs.
- Raise awareness by providing training for staff at all levels to ensure their understanding of sustainability policies, material issues for MATAR and MATAR responses to raise awareness within HIA.
- Develop and foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies and industry bodies.
- Provide input to the VP Sustainability on objectives, measures, targets and KPIs.
- Prepare regular reports on sustainability progress, including an annual sustainability report.
- Stay updated on international sustainability issues, best practices and relevant legislation.
- Develop and implement a community engagement plan aligned with MATAR’s sustainability strategy.
- Manage research projects to promote sustainability improvements.
- Oversee sustainability implications of airport development projects, ensuring alignment with Qatar’s objectives and QR Group policies.
- Monitor compliance with HIA management systems and promote adherence to QR group policies.
- Perform other department duties related to his/her position as directed by the Head of the Department
Asset Management:
- Provide expertise in statistical analysis and monitoring, manage continuous improvement and deliver AMS objectives.
- Apply HIA Asset Management Policy requirements and manage risks to maximize business opportunities.
- Identify tools and practices to drive business development and performance improvements.
Management & Leadership:
- Set and align department objectives with business goals.
- Evaluate and adjust department plans, procedures and practices as needed.
- Supervise and develop employees, ensuring high service standards and succession planning.
- Contribute to national talent development by coaching and preparing national developees for future roles.
Personal Development:
- Take responsibility for personal development and staying abreast of spanet trends.
- Assist in responding to emergencies or major operational disruptions affecting Qatar Airways or its subsidiaries.
- Train Qatari staff as required by business needs.
Data Protection:
- Ensure compliance with data protection principles and company policies regarding information use, processing and security.
- Consult the Group’s Data Protection Officer on data protection and privacy matters.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of all information handled.
Safety:
- Ensure employees understand and comply with work health and safety requirements.
- Promote compliance with safety, security, quality and environmental management policies.
- Take an active interest in reported injuries, incidents and hazards, ensuring appropriate responses.
Environmental Competencies:
- Contribute to Qatar Airways Group Environmental Objectives and the Environmental Management System.
- Apply environmental knowledge in business processes to drive efficiencies and reduce risks.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelors/Masters degree in a relevant field.
- 10+ years of experience in sustainability strategy and stakeholder management.
- Minimum of 3 years working experience in Sustainability
- Experience with sustainability reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI, UNSDG).
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
