Windward Aviation’s commitment to excellence in service is only matched by our commitment to safety. Our exceptional team of aviation professionals makes the difference and sets the standards. Our fleet currently consists of one MBB BK117-850D2 and five MD500D helicopters. We have operated up to eight aircraft at one time while working on the clean up project with the United States Navy on the island of Kaho’olawe, where our pilots logged over 30,000 hours with 900,000 take offs and landings.

On a daily basis Windward Aviation supports the transportation of passengers and gear to/from job sites with internal and external sling loads to very remote areas where conservationists are working to preserve the native rainforests and watersheds of Hawai’i. Conjointly, Windward Aviation partners with the Department of Land & Natural Resources to successfully eradicate and tag animals that threaten native ecosystems from extinction. Furthermore, we support the eradication of invasive plant species with a spray rig.

To support filming, Windward Aviation designed and engineered our own camera mount exclusively for our aircraft. Prior to the camera mount, we were limited to handheld cameras and middle mounts, which had many limitations, most notably that inability to zoom in. With this custom mount it’s as if the camera is mounted to a tripod and can support any gyrostabilized camera system, such as the cinaflex, shotover, GSS & the Lidar sensor camera. In recent years, we have logged hundreds of hours with the Lidar sensor to survey land & map terrain so geologists can better understand the effects of volcanic activity.
